Glass and acrylic Designer garage doors are becoming increasingly coveted and it’s easy to see why. The clear or translucent panels allow a little – or a lot – of light to enter a space and the supporting metal (aluminium in the case of Dominator’s VL Designer Series) network frames the view. While it is a beautiful garage door option for a high-end home, a sectional glass door is worthy of many different applications, outside and even inside buildings.
We’ve put together a selection of images showing instances where a glass garage door has added style, light and functionality to spaces other than car garaging. This is a great place to start if you have ever considered a sectional garage door as an architectural element. Take five to enjoy some inspirational browsing.
The homes below have utilised sectional glass doors to open up living spaces, bringing the outdoors in. Top right, an apartment with a gorgeous garden view feels wonderfully spacious with the whole wall opened up. Bottom left, the airflow through this space must be felt to be believed.
Effectively moveable walls, sectional doors allow industrial spaces to be modified to suit the purpose. Increase the floor area for larger gatherings, or create a more intimate setting as required. Restaurants and cafēs reap the benefits of being able to open up on sunny days, or shut out wind and rain while retaining a light and airy feeling. The little cabana below, centre right, is an all-weather relaxation space that would be difficult to achieve with horizontally moving doors.
Wow, the country estate below could never be likened to a farmhouse! Trot right up to the sitting room for a spot of tea while the ponies graze outside. Notice how the door and window frames match? Top right, if you live on a river this would be a great way to feel the flow. Bottom right, it’s snow-covered outdoors but this spot looks cozy and welcoming.
Please note that the doors shown are for inspirational purposes and are not Dominator images.
