Weather Protection
No longer just a garage, this room has a multiple of uses these days, so weather protection is a key consideration of any new garage door.
Our doors are built from pre-painted steel that is made and tested for New Zealand conditions. Mohair strip attached to the opening surround, plus a durable multi-fin bottom weatherseal help keep the leaves and rain outside.
Framing Details
We recommend the following standard clearances for Sectional Doors:
- Standard Headroom - 300mm
- Standard Headroom with Opener - 330mm
- Sideroom - 120mm
- Backspace with opener - 3500mm (Door height up to 2300mm)
Lifting Systems
Dominator Sectional Garage Doors are counter-balanced with torsional springs installed above the opening.
Regular servicing will ensure the correct tension is maintained over the life of your door, placing less stress on components and your opener.
We recommend your door & opener are serviced once in the first 12-months and then 2-yearly after that - see our Door Care & Maintenance page for more information.

Servicing & Maintenance
Servicing and maintaining your garage door is very important to ensure the longevity of your garage door.
Just like a car, regular servicing is required to maintain your warranty and catch wear & tear early.
Garage Door Servicing RequirementsCreating a Truly Flat Door
Dominator takes pride on producing quality doors and openers.
Some things out of our control – like the direct heat of the sun and seasonal temperatures can cause irregularities in the door panel surface (due to thermal expansion). The colour you choose can also play a part.
When we produce our doors, we make every effort to take this into account and minimize the effect of thermal expansion across the door.
For a more consistent flatter door, we recommend either a Sierra or the negative detailed Nevada, both produced from heavy-gauged steel.
