In days gone by, most games were played in groups or teams, usually with healthy doses of sweat and vocal competitiveness. But in modern times, players tend to go it alone, hunched over screens or clutching controllers. If you struggle to get the family off their devices and interacting, it pays to be prepared. Stash some great games in your garage, and you’ll be ready for any season.
Here are our top ten games that you can keep in the garage - and games that can be played in the garage - without taking up too much space.
Bean bag toss, Ring toss or Quoits
Simple games are often the best for entertaining large groups; all ages can participate in these favourites. Rather than purchasing new, consider building your own with timber scraps and plaited rope. For a DIY ring toss, try hand-sewn bean bags with dried beans or rice for tossing. You could even fill socks and tie the ends! Giant tic-tac-toe is another great party option that can pack away tidily.

Giant Jenga
Here's a game that keeps competition alive! Whether you have room to store the standard or giant version, Jenga is one of those games that all ages and skill levels can participate in.

Darts
Perhaps described as the quintessential garage game, a dart board is easy to set up, takes very little space and is excellent for learning hand-eye coordination. Not to mention it's loads of fun! Just make sure that everyone is old enough to be responsible with the darts.

Ping pong / Table tennis
Convert any table using a sheet of plywood and then simply purchase a net and set of bats. A ping pong table can easily be stashed against a wall for storage and it’s a great game to get players moving, indoors or out.
Air hockey and Foosball
A garage with foosball or air hockey will be popular in the neighbourhood and a good incentive to entertain teens (and no doubt a few extras) at home. Consider purchasing second hand, and when it’s no longer used, you can resell it again.

Shooting Hoops
A basketball or netball hoop can be part of almost any garage, inside or on an outside wall. Shoot a few hoops together to practise hand-eye coordination and connect without expending too much puff. Shooting hoops is also a great pastime for contemplation and problem-solving or to 'cool off' in a constructive manner.
Golf putting green
Practise on your own fairway at home before you hit the course! A mini putting green can be squeezed into a small space and provide hours of stress-relieving practice and entertainment, whatever the weather.
Add a few of the above to your usual outdoor contenders like frisbee, softball and badminton, and at any party, school holiday or rainy day, you'll have the answer to the old question, "What is there to do?"
